So I am way behind word count wise.
By tomorrow, I need to hit 25000 words.
Am I worried?
Why? Because despite falling behind, I am still happy with what I have written so far. I like the direction the story is going in, and I think I am going to enjoy writing this post Camp.
Do I still want to win? Of course! Will I quit writing if I fail? No.
The whole point of NaNoWriMo, in my opinion, is to help writers who need a boost. To some, it might result in a 50,000+ word draft. To others, it’s a draft that was originally a 0 word document. As long as it’s helped you as a writer, then that’s all that matters!
Speaking of winning, my Sunday was full of win. How, you ask? I saw the following show – front row seats and all:
Still full of laughs!

Well I had hoped to be further ahead in the story, but due to a crazy night out on Friday, I really didn’t have the energy to write as much as I did today (over 2500 words!)
It’s what I felt like..minus the balding of course.
However, I really enjoyed what I wrote. I got to finally introduce my big bad antagonist into the story. He’s already made a statement to the protagonist so I am excited to write the scenes where they are together.
As I write this, I just realized I need to finish my taxes. Ack!

Just like how I pushed myself to finish my workout today, I pushed myself to keep going with writing my NaNo novel. I was pleased when I saw how much I wrote.
Today I am suppose to be at 6666 words (evil sounding, eh?) if I want to be on par for finishing. But in fact, I’m ahead! Well, you all knew that. This is good because I know tomorrow I will be out and about. I gotta be social every now and then.
I’m happy with how this is going so far. This time around, I did a lot of world building, but very little in the plot. Specifically, no outline. I do remember once writing out a very informal summary, but I barely remember it.
As a result of winging the plot, I don’t have specific endpoints where to stop. I just keep on writing until I feel satisfied with the chapter or scene.
Don’t expect an update from me tomorrow! Saturday I hope to break 10,000 words and beyond.

Well that was a nice improvement from yesterday. Considering I had to work close to ten hours today and still recover from the cold I have, I am impressed I managed to write close to the average I needed to be on par for Camp NaNoWriMo.
What helps me is that I am doing a lot more telling than showing. I know, it’s a bad habit to do in writing, but to help make up for the word count deficit I had, I needed to write more! I hope I don’t have to rely on that technique.
You see, I don’t want to spend time just writing paragraphs on how awesome my male MC is. I would write about how awesome I am, but wouldn’t you want to see me in action? I want my male MC (or any character in my story) to actually do awesome things!
Readers didn’t just hear about the Twelve Labours that Hercules had to do, no they got to hear how he accomplished them and why he was a divine hero. It was like we were with Hercules as he slayed the Nemean Lion and captured Cerberus.
Granted, dealing with James Woods as Hades is quite a feat.

I managed to squeeze in another thousand before going to bed, and then barely wrote another thousand today.
I was worried that I was coming down with something. Looks like it was the case.
Oh well, best to get some sleep and power through tomorrow!

Let me start off by saying that no, this story is not a smut novel. Now that this is out of the way, let’s talk about how Day 1 is going.
I have the tactical advantage of having today and tomorrow off. I figure I can get a big head start into the story because I know my work schedule and I will be lucky if I can stay on pace for the rest of the month.
Also, despite having the day off, I didn’t start writing until about 4PM. Well I also spent an hour last night (after midnight, of course!) writing too. I’d say this is a pretty good start. I know last year I was feeling burnt out from the beginning and struggled to hit 1700 words.
I hope everyone else is getting real deep into their stories! And why did I say “spicy and fishy”? Here’s why:
I do wish this aggravating cough would go away though!
