I need more hours in my life.

Current Listening To: Omerta, by Lamb of God

So I got stuff planned. Charity stuff this weekend. NaNoWriMo next month…

Anyone doing NaNoWriMo this year? I could use some writing buddies!

Gaming to save lives! (Donation Request)

So here’s the deal:

October 13th, 2012 9:00AM to October 14th, 2012 9:00AM.

I’m going to be playing video games.

Sounds boring…but can you write for 24 hours? Cook for 24 hours? Heck even sleeping for 24 hours is a challenge!

Why am I attempting this challenge?

To raise money for children’s’ hospitals.

I’m asking you for donations and support. In turn, all the donations I get will go for a good cause. To help kids dealing with serious medical issues.

Donate here.

You all know I don’t back down from challenges. But I need your help to make it happen!

And we’re back!

Sorry readers. August was an emotional month for me. The last two weeks in particular were also pretty draining. It was mostly issues at home.

However, there is too much to explain so I’ll discuss in private with anyone.

So last time I had even posted…

  • I was beginning to work on my latest draft of Perverse Selection.
  • I was getting funky with my social life.
  • I was thinking about NaNoWriMo.

I will begin work on the book soon. I have amazing friends. If I do NaNoWriMo this November, it will be working on a presentable draft. Quality over quantity…sorta.

Now pardon me as I enjoy dinner – veggie Krabby Patties!

Getting ahead of myself

I still need to get Perverse Selection done, but I am already researching ideas for my next story.

I have an overactive imagination.

Also, avoid the jungle juice.

That is all.

How was your holiday Wednesday? (Warning – lots of pictures!)

This gallery contains 8 photos.

Currently Listening To: After Thought, by Bassnectar So having the day off yesterday was kind of weird. A sudden break in the middle of the week. Then today felt like Monday all over again. So yesterday I got up and … Continue reading

So I’m reading through some basic grammer lessons and favorite novels of mine. Trying to get my mechanics down so that when I begin editing, I can get these chapters right!

Though I find it funny that as I am reading through all the lessons…they all sound familiar to me. Rules such as using ‘who’ vs. ‘whom’ are buried deep in my brain.

Anyway, I’m diverting a bit from the usual post subjects to talk about news that caught my eye.

Stephanie Rice, an Australian swimmer who will be competing in the upcoming Olympics, posted a picture of herself in a low-cut bikini on Twitter.

This apparently drew criticism from folks on Twitter. Someone even wanted her to withdraw from the Olympics.

Now, I’m sure some of you are thinking Wait a minute, she’s a swimmer and she was posing in a bikini? What’s the big deal? Don’t worry, I’m on that boat too.

First, she’s been in trouble before for pictures or comments she’s made on social media sites before.

Second, holding athletes to higher standards of conduct seems to be the norm on social media sites.

But what does this have to do with us crazy writers? It’s unlikely we’ll be wearing bikinis and posting them on our blogs or Twitters for all to see. I haven’t seen any of my followers post something awfully crude or offensive.

However, many of us utilize social media. It’s important to remember that whatever we post, stays on the Internet. It helps to think twice before posting something and if you do post something that might be a bit offensive…well be prepared to get some nasty comments.

I always tell people that the Internet is your harshest critic. Post a video of yourself on Youtube and I would be shocked if you didn’t get comments like these:

An angry potty-mouth

I think he’s annoyed.

In short, just be prepared when you post content online.

Have a great holiday!

So…Weight Loss?

So…final word count is 80,052.

Dividing that number by the magic number (3,500) we get…

So…by December 31st, I’ll shoot to have lost at least 23 lbs.

How well will this go? Let’s check in about a month.

For the time being, I’m going to be making some simple changes to my lifestyle:

  • Replacing soda with water. Going cold turkey just isn’t going to work. I have to do this slowly..and I better hang around near a restroom for a while.
  • Walking more – don’t need to go on mile hikes early in the morning, but doing those simple things like parking further away, taking the stairs instead of the elevator…that kind of stuff.
  • Less carbs – specifically rice! I’m a sucker for it and I’ll be eating bowls of it a day. I’m not the most active guy in the world so I guess I don’t need all of those carbs!

Since I’m writing a post about this and I have some followers…I can’t fake!

Day Twenty – A Long Day (and a serious request)

Song of the Day: Life in the Mines, from the game Donkey Kong Country (GBC version)

Word Count: 44,762

Well, as many of you know, today is the summer solstice. Some of you also know that there’s a heat wave going around.

To be honest, I didn’t expect to write over 2,000 words today. I had planned today to be a light day, but I guess I was so eager to write I just managed to find time.

So in a previous post, I said I was planning something big. Here’s what I’m planning (and work with me on this):

I need to lose weight. Big time. Right now rocks orbit me as I walk (kidding).

As a way of motivation I want to lose weight based on the number of words I write for this month.

No, not lose over 40,000 pounds, but burn that many calories during the rest of the year.

As a general rule of thumb, it takes 3500 calories to burn a pound of fat right? So what I would plan to do is divide the number of words I write this month by 3500 and try to lose that many pounds by the end of the year.

An example: We take the current word count and divide that by 3500. We get…12.77. A bit low but I still got 10 more days to write.

Of course, if I hit my goal, there’s nothing stopping me from going forward.

I’m already making some lifestyle changes already, but a little extra motivation never hurts!

What do you guys think?

A prompt.

So it’s late here and I felt like blogging.

I didn’t know what to post though, so I went to and found this prompt:

mindbump suggested by The Real Eureka Springs

“Describe something seemingly unimportant or ridiculous that makes you happy.”

I thought hard about this, and came to this conclusion:

Hearing someone say “hello”, “hi”, “good morning”, etc. to me.

Now you might be thinking about how is this even ridiculous or unimportant.

In this day and age, everyone’s in a rush.

We have to catch the next train. We have to attend the 8AM meeting. We have to drop our kids off for tennis practice. We have to pick up our carryout dinner before it gets cold. We have to catch Game 7 of the NBA Finals. We have to finish creating our cosplay costumes for Otakon this year. We have to charge our smartphones or else we’ll miss that important text.

And the list goes on.

I’ll admit, I’m guilty of this too. It doesn’t help that often I’ll have my headphones on so I’m drowning out everything around me.

But on the days I’m more alert to my surroundings, nothing beats hearing a “good morning!” from a friend or stranger. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a bad start to the morning, only to get a cheery greeting from a co-worker or an old friend. It works wonders. The mere fact that they are taking potentially precious seconds from their day to greet me is enough to cheer me up from anything.

So what about you all? What unimportant or ridiculous thing makes you happy?

Or you could try one of the prompts?

5 Facts About Gates

Currently Listening To: Sugar, by System Of A Down

I feel my wonderful readers don’t really know me. So to shed some light, I’ll post 5 random facts about myself!

  1. Despite my love for video and computer games, I have never played World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, etc. However, a lot of my friends play those games, so I often come off as someone who plays those games on a regular basis.
  2. I don’t eat beef (on purpose). Parents never ate it, so I never ate it. Despite not living at home, I don’t have craving for steak or cheeseburgers. However, put some tender lamb or crab legs in front of me and I’ll be stuffing my face.
  3. I’ve been on the news. Not because I was a wanted criminal, but because local news stations wanted to do a story on the software my previous employer developed. I was only on screen for 2 seconds but it was the best 2 seconds ever!
  4. I’m one of those people who gets anxious about stuff like forgetting to lock the car door and will check repeatedly to put my mind at ease.
  5.  I want to know the secret formula to the Krabby Patty.

I’d love to know 5 things about you!
