“Keep on dancing, till the world ends…”
I guess if you substitute “writing” with “dancing” that would sum up my mood right now.
The last time I touched the documents on my laptop related to a work in progress was back in April. Now it’s August and I have a new drive to write something.
I don’t know if it’s related to stuff I’ve seen during that hiatus, or it’s this dark chocolate gelato drink I have…but whatever it is, it’s working!

I am excited. I’ve been working on a new project. Peverse Selection is not in the trash bin (or Recycle Bin for that matter…), as I do plan on finishing it at some point. I was just getting tired and decided to tease my creativity with another story.
And only about a week or so ago I saw that Camp NaNoWriMo was happening in April (which is less than 30 minutes away!). Will I hit 50,000? Who knows?
Anyway, I’m happy to be back in the writing hobby and ready to dive headfirst into the joys and pains of writing a novel.

My last post was during NaNoWrimo…wow.
What’s happened since then you ask?
After giving up on NaNoWriMo, I gave Perverse Selection a rest. I was just tired of writing period.
But over the past few days, I’ve been slowly getting the urge to write. Maybe not my last project, but perhaps something a little different.
It’s nice to get back into things.

So we’re at day 15. How am I looking? Let’s ask the trusty stats page!
Overall, I’m doing alright. However, I am lacking the fire from previous NaNoWriMo attempts. Let’s look at Camp NaNoWriMo (June):
See the difference? Back in June, I was always above average after Day 1. Not so much the case this month.
Part of the reason has just been this month in general. The month started off with the most brutal few days of work I have ever had. Then the next weekend, a friend of mine gets alcohol poisoning (she’s fine though. It didn’t help she was 1/3 my size!). This weekend I already have plans and next week is Thanksgiving.
I am also just getting tired of Perverse Selection. It’s in a state where there’s a big picture, but not everything is connecting. I’m losing the will to even think about the story, the characters, etc. The end is there, I just don’t know how to get to it.
Do I want to finish it? Of course! But I think I’m just so use to the project, I am craving another story. I can’t tell you how much I miss world building.
So I think after this month, I’m going to give the story a rest. It’s not going in the trash. I just think I need a change of scenery you know?
Here’s to finishing NaNoWriMo strong! Don’t let me keep you guys down!

So time to look at how I have been doing so far.
Eh, could do better.
A slow start, but I got things rolling by Day 4. I think one issue, outside of my schedule, is that it’s getting tiring working on Perverse Selection. I like the project and want to get it done, but perhaps I should have pursued a different idea. The current story’s getting stale.
I think I’ll have a day to really knock out some chapters this weekend. Hopefully there’s a big jump in the graph!

I was up really late last night and only got about two-three good hours of sleep. It’s a miracle I am even functional right now.
Still, got a decent boost of words and I am still in good shape.
Hopefully I can power through tomorrow. I plan on going to sleep soon!

So Obama won, and I managed to give myself a decent cushion in NaNoWriMo. Most of my writing was done on the train today.
Now I can afford to slow down if needed. Hopefully I won’t have to!

Hit one of my favorite milestones. I guess my word count is over 9000!
I guess I’m really strong too.
I should add that I am not chugging champagne right now. It’s only Monday night!

There we go! That’s a boost right there.
Last night was a friend’s 22nd birthday. It was just the thing I needed after a brutal work week. Lots of drinks, lots of dancing, and lots of bad puns by yours truly.
I also managed to catch up on sleep, thanks to DST. I woke up, fully rested and ready to take on the day.
This also helped….
Once I came back with food in my tummy, it was time to watch the Washington Redskins play and write!
Close to five thousand words written! I’m now back on track and caught up with most of my writing buddies!
One trick I do is to set my font size real low. I tend to judge by number of pages written, so by setting the font size low, one page of that could really be a lot of words.
Hopefully the rest of the month won’t be so brutal. Happy Writing!

Word Count: 2504
Well I doubled my word count…and now am 2,500 words away from being on par with hitting 50,000 words.
Unfortunately, a lack of proper sleep and work burnout is really preventing me from letting me fire on all cylinders.
The thing that is helping me write is describing my characters in as much detail as I can. Not just physical details, but their behavior, their quirks. And no, I’m not just saying:
“oh she has some fine hips and a confident personality to compliment it.”
I’m letting my character show how she is confident (or whatever personality it is) through her actions in the story.
Now this is important to writing, but the final draft won’t be overkill.
A true statement!
