I need more hours in my life.

Current Listening To: Omerta, by Lamb of God

So I got stuff planned. Charity stuff this weekend. NaNoWriMo next month…

Anyone doing NaNoWriMo this year? I could use some writing buddies!

Day Nine – Halfway There!

Song Of The Day – Overkill, by Motorhead

Word Count: 25,031

Today I managed to squeeze in just under eight thousand words.

I got up this morning and decided I needed to go all out. Before that I took care of  cleaning my room up a bit. I also had to take care of laundry.

To help perk my brain up, I went out to the gym. A nice run on the elliptical machine got my heart going.

After a filling lunch, I jumped right back on the computer and got off to a slow start. As time went on and I found more heart-pumping songs to listen to, I managed to hit four thousand by the early evening.

Took an hour break to clear my head and munch on some dark chocolate and hydrate myself. Fueled and ready to write, I added another three thousand words. It helps I’m at a key point in the story. But some scenes I had to write were…a bit awkward to say the least.

By dinner time I was at seven thousand words. I drove down to my favorite Thai face and watched Game 7 of the NBA East Finals. Nail-biter that game was.

By the time I came home, I realized I had less than an hour to write some hour and make this blog post. I managed to squeeze in just under a thousand words in about thirty minutes. With my word count at the half-way mark for Camp NaNoWriMo I decided to call it a night.

I know next weekeend will not be as productive, so I’m glad to have hit a good milestone.

Day Six – Down but not out!

Song of the Day: Nothing Ever Dies, by Kamelot

Word Count: 14,144

After a good night of rest, I’m ready to continue writing.

I hadn’t been sleeping properly since I started. I always felt winded after work, so I decided to take a break to give my brain a rest.

It paid off, as I wrote over two thousand words.

Most of it was done on my train and bus rides to and from work. I bring my baby Dell netbook and type away. In some cases I only get one hand to type.

So far I’m liking the path my story is taking. I may have to change some minor points here and there, but compared to previous drafts, this feels like a more complete plot.

For fun, here’s a screenshot of my word count graph:

Above the line!

Day Three – A quiet end to the weekend.

Song Of The Day: Pepper, by Butthole Surfers.

Word Count: 10065.

Well I broke the ten thousand mark. To help me push to that mark, I jumped a few scenes past my story and started writing a chapter that I had a better idea about.

Once I was done with that (I was just over nine thousand words at that point), I jumped to the previous chapter and finished writing it.

I can’t say I’m liking everything I’ve written so far, but I’m sure next month and beyond I can morph what I have written to a complete product. I can’t keep rewriting and rewriting or else I’ll never get a chance to publish.

Last night I spent some time writing. After midnight I just spent the time relaxing and talking to people. By the end of it I looked at the clock and it was 4AM! I jumped into bed and got up after noon. Fortunately I still had enough time to write and get other things done around the house.

My reward for hitting that milestone:

Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate

I couldn’t resist biting into a piece before taking the picture.

I don’t expect my work count to go up much higher during the work week. Stranger things have happened though.

Now pardon me as I enjoy the nice weather and a refreshing mojito!

Doing it cold

Currently Listening To: Misty Menace, from the game Donkey Kong Country.

(eerie song by the way. Imagine walking through an abandoned, foggy mine).

So for Camp NaNoWriMo, I think I’m going to do this one cold. No outline.

I’ll just have a little cheat sheet with character names, important places, and other details. I’ll let the plot write itself.

Who knows what will happen?

If you haven’t signed up yet, make sure to do so if you want to start in June (which is this Friday!)

I’ll try to post daily, but I’m not making any promises.
